2019 Worcester Cup

Four SSCC teams competed at the 5 and under Worcester Cup Bonspiel last weekend at The Country Club in Brookline.

Team Sousa: Jane, James Z., Brendan and Caitlin Z.
Team Walker: Kendall, Scott, Jim and Dee
Team Landry: Michelle, Brett, Bob G. and Jamie C.
Team Jussaume: Andy J, Colleen, Chris and Francesca

After their first draws on Thursday night, 3 teams won their first games and remained in the A bracket while one unfortunately lost and moved to the B bracket. Their Friday games were exciting: Team Landry swapped points with the team they were playing against, but lost moving to the C bracket. Team Sousa won their game against Berkshires, always being on top with points. Team Walker won their second game, shutting out a TCC team. And Team Jussaume had a really close game against a strong Broomstones team taking the win in the 8th end. They all remained in the A bracket.

Saturday morning started early for the 3 A bracket teams. It was a South Shore showdown between Team Sousa and Team Jussaume. A very close game with Team Sousa winning, remaining in the A bracket. Team Walker played a tough Broomstones team. Down by 3 by the third, they took 3 in the 4th to tie things up. They kept making great shots, stealing ends and winning 8-4. They also remained in the A bracket and along with Team Sousa were guaranteed at this point to be in the finals on Sunday.

Team Landry had a hard fought game on Saturday, it was up and down with the team eventually taking a loss and were knocked out of the spiel. With new-ish curlers — 3 of them being at their first bonspiel — the experience couldn’t be matched. (And free drinks aren’t a bad thing.)

Team Jussaume won their Saturday afternoon game, moving them onto the B semi-finals on Sunday morning. Team Walker lost their Saturday afternoon game against a tough Cape Cod team – onto the D finals. Team Sousa won their afternoon game in the last stone of the game – onto the A finals for them. Team Jussaume lost their Sunday morning semi-finals game and were knocked out. Teams Walker and Sousa were piped onto the ice for their games at 12:45. Both ended up losing, but had fun overall in the end.

This was the last year for Jane Sousa, Michelle Landry, Scott Fernandes and Kendall Walker to be able to participate in this bonspiel. It is highly recommended you make it to this before you age out.
