2022 Broom & Button Cup Finals

The 2022 Broom & Button Cup was about a close a final as we’ve ever had, despite lopsided-on-paper teams. Playing for the cup were: Chuck Barnes, Jamie Constantino, Allison Cooley and Sean MacGregor versus James Zuber, Steve Falconer, Thomas McIvor and Mary Walsh. (Jen Campbell originally made the top 8 but unfortunately an arm injury sustained at a bonspiel kept her out of the finals.)

Team Barnes scored in the first end, but Team Zuber came back to steal multiple ends after that. Going into the last end, Barnes was down by 2 with the hammer and was able to tie it, forcing skips’ draw-to-the-button throws for the win.

After each threw too light to get in the house, a second draw shot saw Chuck reach the four foot. James’ draw just about an inch (if not less!) farther from the button than that, giving Team Barnes the smallest margin of victory.

This was also our first night able to broomstack since before COVID, so we enjoyed plenty of food & snacks, a Yankee swap, and some ugly Christmas sweaters. Merry Christmas and good curling!
