2018 GNCC Arena Championships

Two teams represented SSCC at the GNCC Arena Championships bonspiel in Plymouth, NH on June 22-24:

• Team Flynn: Andy F., Chuck, LeRoy and Kendall
• Team Zuber: Evan, Andy J., James and Mary Beth (with Caitlin subbing a couple of times)

Team Flynn made it to the semifinals. Down by 5 in the 2nd they came back, down by 2 in the 5th, but unfortunately couldn’t pull out the win. Team Zuber took the ice after being piped on and having their shot of Drambuie for the D event finals. They were playing against a formidable team from Pittsburgh.

Pittsburg takes the first end with just 1. SSCC takes the second with 3. Pittsburgh takes 3 in the 3rd and are now up by 1. SSCC takes another 3 in the 4th with everyone making some fantastic shots. Pittsburgh takes 2 in the 5th, tied again. SSCC comes back in the 6th to take 2 after Evan throws a perfect hit through a narrow port making an awesome shot to take the end. Pittsburgh took the opportunity to blank the 7th to go into the 8th with the hammer, only down by two. It was a close end, SSCC gets in the house early and protects it. Everyone throws their necessary guards, protecting their shot rock and win the game. Congrats to Andy, Evan, Mary Beth, James and Caitlin — it was an exciting game to watch!
